Stellar Designs is an independent lighting design consultancy in Ahmedabad. We design, calculate and document lighting for buildings across India, and we do not sell fittings.

Design process

Our approach towards treating a space.

Six stages, run in sequence, from the first read of the space to the last evening spent aiming fittings.

  1. 01

    Analysis

    We begin with the space, not the fitting. Surveys, daylight behaviour, sightlines, use patterns and the client's own brief are read together before any scheme exists.

  2. 02

    Concept

    Hand sketches test colour temperature, beam and hierarchy. The idea has to survive on paper before it earns a specification.

  3. 03

    Synchronise

    Architect, interior designer, MEP and contractor arrive at one shared understanding of the space and its cumulative ambience.

  4. 04

    Bespoke

    Where nothing off the shelf will do, we detail the luminaire to the architecture. Coves, grazers and custom fixtures, drawn to fit.

  5. 05

    Design

    Photometric calculation and mapping turn intent into numbers: levels, uniformity, glare control and load, documented for tender.

  6. 06

    Implementation

    Site supervision, mock-ups, focusing and final aiming. The executed outcome is checked against the concept it came from.
